Come Here

A family from Boston moved to eastern West Virginia, just across the Shenandoah Mountains. People like us are called "come-heres" but not to our faces.

If You Lived Here ...

... you too would watch cows. They array themselves so elegantly across the hillside, and then as you watch, first one moves, and then another one. Then they stand still for a while, and then another one moves. That one might be a calf bouncing over to have a feed off its mother. Or the horses might take into their minds to have a run.

There's something about this stop-action pace that makes the sight very soothing. The window with the best view is in the hallway between the bedroom and the bathroom, and if the hallway were wider, I'd put an armchair there, it's that good.

A bonus view, with a different life lesson, is the big cattle truck when it's parked outside this window. The male cardinal can't get over the male cardinal he sees in its big rear-view mirror. He chastises and threatens it for minutes on end. He ought to chill out and watch cows.
