First Snow
It has been spitting snow since the middle of the day on Monday. On me and mine,it has been spitting snow since the top of Shenandoah Mountain, which we rounded on Monday about 5 o'clock. Folks in Monterey told us it had been snowing most of the day. Although it did not pile up, it did lie on the surfaces of leaves and generally frost the whole landscape.
What we've been told about highway maintenance is true: After dinner in Monterey, we reached the outskirts of Franklin about 9 o'clock, and as we made the bend at the RiteAid, the road surface changed into something rough and crunchy. The highway trucks had laid down a layer of coal-gravel for traction, just in case.
