Come Here

A family from Boston moved to eastern West Virginia, just across the Shenandoah Mountains. People like us are called "come-heres" but not to our faces.

Early-Rising Community

Saturday was the community health fair, with rabies vaccinations for $5 from 8 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. and flu shots from 6:30 a.m. until 10 a.m. Jasmine held her own among the hounds at the vet's office, and I did OK with the public health nurse, following up with a couple brownies from the ACS bake sale on the way out.

On my mental map, these had errands loomed over the whole day, but in fact I was home before 9:15. The temperature stayed below freezing until at least that hour, as I observed on the bank sign on my way home. For the first time in several weeks, I saw deer on the road.
