Come Here

A family from Boston moved to eastern West Virginia, just across the Shenandoah Mountains. People like us are called "come-heres" but not to our faces.

Frost

Frost ... the nights of October 12, 13 and 14. This morning, the 15th, it was 29 degrees at 7 AM. This more or less lines up with reported experience in the Connecticut River Valley, confirming our sensation that the Potomac Highlands and Hanover, NH, are in the same climato-cline, or isotherm, or whatever-you-call-it.

I have waited too late to capture a cricket for a winter-time pet, and the surviving wasps are creeping around despondently. We won't miss 'em, and we know they'll be back.
