Come Here

A family from Boston moved to eastern West Virginia, just across the Shenandoah Mountains. People like us are called "come-heres" but not to our faces.

An Owl for Halloween

Yes! Across the street is a small shed with an open window in the gable end. I went outside around 5:30 PM, when it was getting quite dusky, and saw a barn owl sitting in the open window. He was a little bigger than my hand. I spotted him right after lighting my Halloween jack o'lantern. I checked several times until it was too dark for me to him. I suppose it was never too dark for him to see me, if he had cared to.
