Creature News
Such news as there is is creature news. Jasmine is on a hunting tear. Monday she brought us one mole and today she brought us two. She lays them at the front door and usually we step over them when we step outside. Where there ought to be a mat, there are bloodstains instead.
Deer have apparently retreated into deeper woods now that hunting season has begun. I heard one rifle shot yesterday. We've seen no deer in the yard or along the roads.
Paul Mallow's five horses spent yesterday in the pasture nearest to the road. I went down to say hello and toss them some apples. They paid me no mind. This corner went unmowed all summer, a jungle of thistles, milkweed and other ragged vegetation. When Paul cut it down a few weeks ago, it looked stark naked.
While waiting for Glen down at Billy's car repair (and we won't go into that), a lone monarch butterfly went past me, headed south. It was close to 80 degrees and sunny, but I wonder where he'll be if and when we get snow later this week. Perhaps that's just a scare story.
The moon has been so big and bright that it is like a creature itself.
