Ferment
The ferment caused by the weather has cross-pollinated with the ferment caused by installing a new version of McAfee's Internet Security Suite. The hurricane is long gone, but the clash of McAfee with Starband, our satellite-mediated ISP, does not dissipate as quickly.
Never mind.
Although it's Labor Day, around us our neighbors are working. Even with most of the windows closed, we can track the movement of big trucks on our small road. Our neighbor Paul has taken about a dozen head of cattle away in his cattle-carrier. Precious, the old dog, watched from way up on the hill as the big truck maneuvered past the winter's supply of hay. Two stops to close gates, and onto the road.
The cattle are bound for the feedlot, and we feel sorry for them. They'd enjoy another winter on hay much more than what's in store for them.
Further up hill, another neighbor is logging. This morning he took a load outbound. At lunch I just happened to be looking out the kitchen window to the road and saw the truck coming back empty. Thus a quiet rumble in the background did not surprise me as a new load headed out at mid-afternoon. It is Labor Day, and so they are laboring.
This experience is nothing like listening to traffic. It is just routinely keeping tabs on your environment.
