Come Here

A family from Boston moved to eastern West Virginia, just across the Shenandoah Mountains. People like us are called "come-heres" but not to our faces.

Dry No More

The long dry spell we fretted over is past. Hurricane Ernesto has been pushing wet air ahead of it for the last two days. Last night we set off, after much debate, to see the parade at the Highland County Fair in Monterey, 25 miles away. But before we had gotten far out of town, the skies opened up and we returned home.

In published weather maps, we usually find the Potomac Highlands of eastern West Virginia will have different weather from the central plateau 50 miles to the west. Today it looks as if we will get a taste of the storm, while not too far away, folks will have an ordinary weekend.

Already the rivers seem to have a little more water in them than they did last weekend. It will be interesting to see how full they get, how fast, when the true storm passes through. We will be able to walk down to the culvert over Friends Run to see, unless we completely underestimate the power of the storm.
