Come Here

A family from Boston moved to eastern West Virginia, just across the Shenandoah Mountains. People like us are called "come-heres" but not to our faces.

Rain on a Standing Seam Roof

It is a lovely sound, rain on a standing seam roof. It had been dry for a couple weeks, so the rain that started at 3 AM was welcome. About 30 seconds after the sound woke me, the wonderful aroma of freshly-dampened air and soil reached me and I went back to sleep in a happy frame of mind.

Earlier in the evening, the cat caught a rabbit and crouched on the porch to eat its head. I experienced the very definition of horrified fascination. When I walk by the cat today, I look at her with new eyes.
